The Royal New Zealand Ballet’s critically acclaimed staging of Giselle comes to town for four performances between January 31 and February 2… in time to put us all in the mood for Valentine’s Day! The ballet is known as one of the most romantic of all time, and the lead role of Giselle is one of the most coveted in dance.
In the story, a beautiful young woman is seduced and betrayed by a man. She goes mad after discovering that he has deceived her and, despite warnings from her mother that her heart is weak, she dances all night and dies by morning. The second act takes place in the forest, where the spirits encourage a ghostly Giselle to take revenge on her lover. Instead of luring him to his death, Giselle forgives him, protecting him from the spirits whose intention was to make him dance until his own death and saving his life. Giselle redeems her soul for eternity in a beloved ballet that harnesses the power of forgiveness and redemption to vanquish the anguish of love and betrayal.
We have a four pack of tickets to give away to the matinee performance on Sunday, February 2. Enter to Win by writing to us at familysavvy@gmail.com. Winners to be awarded by Monday, January 27.
