The Hyprocrites, Chicago’s award-winning theater company, will perform a staged reading at the Getty Villa of their unique 12-hour theatrical adaptation All Our Tragic. Adapted and directed by Sean Graney, the reading, performed over two six-hour installments on November 8 and 9, will include edits and modifications to the original script that was recently performed to unanimous critical acclaim in Chicago.
All Our Tragic combines the 32 surviving Greek tragedies into a single epic narrative by dividing the plays into four themes consisting of two acts each. The themes include pyromantics, politics, patriotics, and poetics. The performance creates a modern festival of Dionysus, the immersive, durational-theater experience of the Ancient Greeks, designed to encourage civic conversation about important contemporary topics by incorporating music, politics and eating.
The program schedule is from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, November 8 and 9. Each day includes one intermission and a lunch break. A special Mediterranean menu will be available at the Villa Café for purchase both days.
