Sing, dance, and play along with the invigorating ukulele pop music of Heidi Swedberg and the Sukey Jump Band.
The Easter Bunny gave Heidi Swedberg—then five years old and living in Kailua, Hawaii—her first ukulele. After teaching herself to play and writing her own songs as a child, Swedberg took a break from her ukulele to pursue a successful career as an actress in Hollywood. In 1992, Swedberg had the opportunity to combine her two interests: she was cast as a singer-songwriter in a network television pilot and picked up the ukulele once again. Several years later, Swedberg decided it was time to share her love for the instrument with others. Accompanied by the Sukey Jump Band—a name referring to singing and dancing parties of the nineteenth century—Swedberg released her first instructional album, Play!, in 2009.
In addition to teaching ukulele and guitar lessons to students near and far, Heidi Swedberg and the Sukey Jump Band have toured the country playing their delightful tunes at festivals, concerts, schools, and museums. Don’t miss them on Saturday, September 5 at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM at the Skirball!
