FAMILY FLICKS FILM SERIES
UCLA Film & Television Archive and the Hammer Museum have teamed up for a matinee screening series of new and classic family-friendly films from around the world.
In the Mongolian grasslands, a plucky young girl finds a small dog in a cave and befriends it despite her father’s objections. The Cave of the Yellow Dog’s gentle hymn to nomadic life in the steppes depicts a tale of canine companionship resonant with Buddhist tradition, as well as a familiar parental dilemma. (2005, dir. Byambasuren Davaa, color, in Mongolian with English subtitles, 93 min.)
In conjunction with the Getty Center exhibition Cave Temples of Dunhuang: Buddhist Art on China’s Silk Road. Copresented with the UCLA Confucius Institute.
Recommended for ages 7+. All ages are welcome. Feel free to take a break with infants and toddlers in the theater lobby.
