ZAMFEST was started last year by a local dad, who had worked on Coachella and other adult festivals and recognized the need for something equally cool and expansive for kids. Paul Kim, whose daughter Zoe was admittedly his chief inspiration, loved the idea of creating an environment that could inspire kids to discover their own creativity. ZAMFEST debuted last year and delighted kids and adults alike – it comes to West LA on Sunday, September 23 in a new space (the campus of University High) and with a renewed commitment to bringing dance, music, art and a wondrous environment to families lucky enough to partake in the one-day event.
We had the pleasure of sitting down with Paul and learning about his project. ZAMFEST stands for the Z Arts and Music Festival and Paul has invited local art-based institutions – Samy’s Camera, ArtWorks Studio, The School of Rock, the Zimmer Children’s Museum to name a few – to gather on September 23 to help kids unleash their creative selves. The point, in Paul’s words, “is for kids to walk away with something that they’re passionate about, having engaged the right side of their brain.” From face-painting to songwriting to filmmaking to reading to dancing, kids will be encouraged to have a great time while exploring what they can create.
The festival, which is designed for kids under ten, is open from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM and ideally families would spend a solid three hours at the festival. Check out the website and mark your calendars for a wonderful day in the sun. Tickets are $5 (adults and kids)ahead of time and $8 at the door. Some activities will require tickets at an additional cost, or $25 for unlimited access.
