Having grown up in Pasadena, my husband has fond memories of the original Kidspace in Old Town. So it was with a little nostalgia and a lot of excitement that we took our four children, ages 7, 4, 1 1/2 and newborn, to the updated Kidspace at Brookside Park. I’m not sure who had more fun – the kids or my husband!
Kidspace’s outdoor physics forest got the kids working out their minds and bodies through larger-than-life science experiments including giant levers, a tennis ball launcher and a roller coaster ball fall. My 1 1/2 year-old had to be dragged away after having too much fun racing balls down the curvy track he and his dad built.
Inside Kidspace we crawled through an ant hole (inspired, I’m sure, by the original my husband remembers from his childhood visits), observed terantulas, excavated fossils and made a few craft projects. Outside, the kids raced on the trike track and splashed in the gently flowing river built to look like Pasadena’s own Arroyo. I couldn’t help but smile as i watched so many families play, learn and experiment together at Kidspace.
