Frank Gehry Retrospective Opens at LACMA
LACMA's Frank Gehry retrospective opens today. Not a bad time to do examine the foundation of a remarkable career. We have selected a few resources to help offer families a way to learn more about this work (see below). It's not hard to get kids to "ooh" and "ahh" about the unconventional shapes and lustrous surfaces of much of Gehry's work, offering everyone a chance to think about architectural design and how buildings interact with communities and people.

Orange County Great Park: Exploring a Park in Progress
Orange County Great Park bills itself as the “first great metropolitan park of the 21st century.” Currently, the Great Park consists of 88 acres, and amenities include the Great Park Balloon, the Carousel, the Visitors Center, the Historic Hangar 244, Palm Court and the Farm + Food Lab. Once completed, this Irvine-area attraction will span approximately 1,300 acres.
Noah Purifoy and Fierce Landscapes
This summer the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is presenting the exhibition Noah Purifoy: Junk Dada, the first monographic exhibition dedicated to Purifoy since his passing, and eight of the large-scale sculptures that normally reside in the desert have been transported to LACMA for the occasion. Since these pieces have been temporarily removed from the site where Purifoy intended them to live and be viewed, the museum has mounted them on large, sand-covered platforms as a cue to visitors that these works have come from Purifoy’s outdoor museum.
